Designed as the successor
to the L-29 Delfin, the L-39C was the main training variant and saw
service with Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany,
Hungary, Romania and the Soviet Union. The L-39ZA was the armed version
of the L-39C and the L-39ZO was the single seat light attack version
ordered by Iraq and Libya. Still in operational service with a number of
air forces, about 30 are believed to be flying in civil markings. The
example illustrated below is an L-39C.
