The SA330J Puma is a civil variant of the
original SA330B which was designed as a replacement for the Sikorsky
S-55 troop transport in service with the French Army. The SA330E was
ordered by the Royal Air Force and the SA330C and H were similar
military export models. The SA330F first flown in 1969 was a civil
variant powered by 2x 1435shp(1070kW) Turbomecas. The SA330J was the
principal civil model along with the SA330G and has a MTOW of
16,315lb(7407kg). A total of 690 Pumas of all versions were built by
Aerospatiale by the time production ended in 1987. Some SA330J’s were
built in Indonesia by IPTN and about 170 have been built in Romania by
IAR. A large number are still active in civil markings.
