The Gazelle was designed to meet a requirement by the French Army for a
light observation helicopter. Primarily in use with the military, two
civil versions were built, the SA341G which was certificated in 1972,
and the SA342J powered by a 870shp(649kW) Turbomeca and certificated in
1976. The Gazelle was the first helicopter to utilize a shrouded tail
rotor. It can be seen in civil guise in many parts of the world.
Examples were built in Yugoslavia by SOKO and in the UK by Westland.
