Although based on the A300-600, the A300-600ST (Super Transporter) is
virtually a new design. It was built to transport outsize parts between
Airbus’s plants throughout Europe, including Bremen, Broughton, Hamburg,
Nante and Toulouse. It has the largest cargo hold of any aircraft flying
today, about 1500 cubic metres. It replaced the Super Guppy, a
conversion of the Boeing 377 Stratocruiser by Aero Spacelines Inc.,
which had performed valiant service in this role. The Belugas are also
available for charter to third parties through Airbus Transport
International.
