Airbus Industrie A340-300


Employing the same basic fuselage and wings as the Model A330-300, the A340-300 first entered service with Air France in 1993. This model has proven to be the most popular of the early A340 series and is also available as the A340-300 Combi with a large freight door on the rear port fuselage which allows loading of four freight containers. The passenger load is then reduced to 221. The A340-300E, which first entered service with Singapore Airlines in 1996, features a strengthened wing, increased fuel capacity and a higher maximum take-off weight of 597,450lb (271,000kg).It is powered by 4X 34,620lb.s.t .(154kN) CFM 56-5C4 turbofans and has a range of 8200miles (13,200km). In 2006 Airbus were developing the A330-500 which would have a seating capacity of around 275.
