Airtech is jointly owned by CASA of Spain and IPTN of Indonesia. The
CN-235 series was designed primarily as a military transport but about
50 have been sold to commercial operators including Austral of Argentina
and Merpati of Indonesia. The first version was the CN-235-10 (30 built)
which first flew in 1983 powered by 2x 1700shp(1268kW) General Electrics
and a maximum take-off weight of 31,745lb(14,412kg). The CN-235-200 has
increased operating weights. The CN-235-300 offers hot and high
performance and an optional twin wheel nosegear for operation on unpaved
runways. An enlarged version, the CN-295, was first flown in 1997. It
has been ordered solely by military operators at the time of writing.
The CN-235 program is now managed by EADS (European Aeronautic Defence
and Space Co.) of Schipol, Netherlands. A CN-235-10 is shown below.
