Air Tractor Inc. of Texas was founded by Leland Snow who had pioneered
the design of agricultural aircraft with the Snow S-1 and S-2 models of
1953. Air Tractors first model was the AT-300 (12 built), the design of
which had started in 1971 and which first flew in 1973 powered by a
450hp(335kW) Pratt & Whitney R985-AN1 radial and a maximum take-off
weight of 5000lb(2270kg). This was superseded by the AT-301 and the
AT-301B with a larger chemical hopper. The AT-302 (14 built) first flew
in 1977 powered by a 600shp(447kW) Lycoming and a maximum take-off
weight of 7700lb(3495kg).The AT-302A was similar but with a larger
chemical capacity.
