The side-by-side two seat Phoenix Fanjet was a modified version of the
Promavia Jet Aqualus which had been designed by Stelio Frati and built
in Belgium by Promavia. It was first flown in 1987 and was intended to
compete in the NGT (Next Generation Trainer) program for the USAF. NGT
was cancelled and became JPATS which called for a tandem two seat
cockpit layout. The Jet Squalus was acquired by Alberta Aerospace with
the intention of offering it as a commercial jet trainer in the United
States. In November 2001 the program ended due to funding problems
although the Fanjet remains airworthy.
