American Aircraft Inc.
was founded in 1983 to market the single seat American Aircraft Falcon.
The Falcon (300+ built) was first flown in 1982 and is powered by a 27hp
(20kW) Rotax 277 and has a maximum take-off weight of 520lb(236kg). The
Falcon XP is a longer, tandem two seat version of the Falcon. Both types
were licence built in Belgium by Sonaca and in Italy by Ultrasport. In
Italy the single seat Falcon is known as the Ultrasport F2 Foxcat and
the Falcon XP is the Ultrasport F2 Twin Foxcat. The Twin Foxcat was
powered by a 65hp(48kW) Arrow engine. A shorter wingspan version known
as the Falcon Z was made available as a kit. The Falcon XP was tested on
floats, the system included a fuselage float and two outriggers. The
Falcon has proven to be an extremely popular aircraft with examples
flying worldwide. A development of the Falcon XP was the Falcon 2000
which had a length of 14’3”(4.34m) and a maximum take-off weight of
992lb(450kg). Plans were made to produce kits of the Falcon 2000 but at
this time it is not known if any were sold.
