The Auster J/1 Autocrat was a development of the Auster Mk5 (Model J)
for the immediate post war civil market. Modified to accept the
Blackburn engine it proved popular and 363 were built. The J/1B Aiglet
(86 built) was powered by a 130hp(97kW) de Havilland and with a maximum
take-off weight of 2000lb(907kg). The similar J/1N Alpha (100 built) is
a J/1B without an oil cooler. A small number of J/1B Aiglets have been
modified to take a 180hp(134kW) Lycoming. These models have survived in
healthy numbers and can be found in Europe, Australia, New Zealand,
Canada and the United States. Illustrated below is an Auster J/1
