The J/5F Aiglet Trainer was stressed for aerobatics and almost 70 of
those built were sold overseas, including 17 for service with the
Pakistan Air Force. A number of variants were also built including the
J/5K (2 built) powered by a 155hp(115kW) Blackburn, the J/5L (27 built)
powered by a 145hp(108kW) de Havilland and a maximum take-off weight of
2200lb(998kg). Also derived from the J/5L was the J/5R Alpine (7 built)
which had the wings of the Autocrat and the fuselage of the Aiglet
Trainer. It had a maximum take-off weight of 2250lb(1020kg). The J/5Q
Alpine (4 built) was a J/5R powered by a 130hp (97kW) Gipsy Major 1. An
Auster J/5R Alpine is illustrated below.
