The Aviatika-MAI-890 was developed from the MAI-89 which was first flown
in 1989. Designed at the Moscow Aviation Institute the 890 has proven to
be a useful general purpose aircraft and is used for pipeline patrols,
glider towing and sports aviation. It can also be powered by a
50hp(37kW) Rotax 503UL when its maximum take-off weight is 771lb(350kg),
or the 100hp(74kW) Rotax 912ULS when its maximum take-off weight is
991lb(450kg). The Latvian registered example illustrated below has its
wings removed for storage.
