The two seat version of the Pitts Special
has little commonality of parts with the single seat versions. It has a
different wing section which provides similar performance in both normal
and inverted flight conditions. Christen Industries acquired the rights
to the Pitts aircraft in 1983 and continue to build the factory built
examples. A single seat version of the S-2A, the S-2S, made its first
flight in 1977. Powered by a 260hp(194kW) Lycoming AEIO-540-D4A5, it has
a length of 17’4”(5.28m) and a maximum take-off weight of 1500lb(680kg).
It is available as a factory built aircraft or as a kit, the kit version
being designated S-2S-E.
