Avid Aircraft was formed in 1983 as Light Aero Inc., by Dean Wilson and
Dan Denney. The first design was the 2 seat Avid Flyer A which was
powered by a 40hp(29kW) Cayuga and which had a maximum take-off weight
of 850lb(385kg). Dan Denney left the company to form Denney Aerocraft at
Boise, Idaho and began producing the Denney Kitfox which is very similar
to the Avid Flyer. The Avid Flyer B was powered by a 65hp(48kW) Rotax
532 and the Avid Flyer C was similar but had a side-mounted radiator.
The Avid Flyer Mk.1V Speedwing is a more powerful, updated version of
the Flyer C. The Avid Flyer Mk.1V STOL has a wingspan of
29’10.5”(9.09m). All the Avid Flyer models are available with tricycle
or tailwheel undercarriage. Avid Aircraft continue to offer kits for the
Mk.1V Speedwing and the Mk.1V STOL.
