Bede BD-4

Designed by Jim Bede, the BD-4 is a kit built aircraft available as a two seater powered by a 108hp(81kW) engine and as a four seater as above. Engines up to 200hp(149kW) are optional. An extremely popular homebuilt, its non retractable undercarriage can be of the tricycle or tailwheel type. Earlier Bede designs were the BD-1 two- seat light aircraft first flown in 1963 powered by a 115hp(85kW) Lycoming and which was the predecessor of the American Aviation AA-1 series. The BD-2 was a long range light aircraft based on the Schweizer 2-32 two-seat glider.

Many homebuilt aircraft are modified by their builders during construction and the aircraft below is a good example. It is a stretched version of the Bede BD-4, designated Bede Super BD-4 250.
