A direct development of the Model 65 the
Model 80 Queen Air is a slightly longer, higher powered version of the
earlier model. The Model A80 Queen Air (121 built) was introduced in
1964 and had its wingspan increased to 50’3”(15.3m) to allow it operate
at a higher gross weight of 8500lb(3858kg) and carry 11 passengers. A
further version, the Model B80 Queen Air (242 built) was introduced in
1966. Developed from the Model A80 it was powered by 2X 380hp(283kW)
Lycoming IGSO-540 -A1D engines. It featured an extra window on the
starboard side and had an empty weight of 5277lb (2395kg) and a maximum
take-off weight of 8800lb (3994kg). Production of the Model 80 series
ended in 1978 and a surprisingly large number remain active, mainly in
private hands.
