Bell 47B

The prototype Bell 47 first flew in 1945 and was awarded the first Approved Type Certificate for a civil helicopter issued anywhere in the world. The USAAF ordered 28 Model 47A’s powered by a 157hp(117kW) Franklin for evaluation. The US Army ordered 65 Model 47B’s in 1948 which were designated H-13B/C/D/E/G. These were equivalent to the civil Models 47B and 47B-3 of which 12 were built. The Model 47B-3 was an agricultural version with an open cockpit and externally mounted hoppers for cropdusting operations.
