The Model 47G was an improved three seat
version of the Model 47D which introduced a synchronized elevator to
give better stability and an increased margin of centre-of-gravity
travel. It was operated by the United States Air Force as the H-13G and
by the United States Navy as the HTL-6. The Model 47G-2, which is
included in the numbers built (see above), was introduced in 1955 and
was a Model 47G with a 200hp(149kW) Lycoming VO-435-A1A engine. It was
used extensively by the US military as the OH-13H Sioux. Civil versions
of the Models 47G/47G-2 were used for police patrol, aerial survey and
agricultural duties among others. The Model 47G-2A was introduced in 1960 and used the rotor system from
the Model 47J-2. It was powered by a 240hp(178kW) Lycoming VO-435-A1E.
1962 saw the introduction of the Bell 47G-2A-1 which had an increase in
fuel capacity giving a range of 290miles (467km). The Model 47G-3 which
first flew in 1959 was powered by a turbocharged 225hp(167kW) Franklin
6VS-335-A. It was operated by the US military as the OH-13K Sioux and
had a length of 31’6”(9.6m), a rotor diameter of 37’2”(11.33m) and a
maximum take-off weight of 2850lb(1293kg). The Model 47G-3B (576 built)
first flew in 1960 and was powered by a 260hp(193kW) Lycoming
TVO-435-A1A. This model was operated by the US military as the OH-13S.
