The British Army operated the Westland-Bell
AH.1 Sioux licence built version of the Model 47G-3B-1 in the
reconnaissance, training and liaison roles. A number of ex-British
military examples are now on the UK civil register including the example
illustrated below which was formerly XT167 with the British Army.

The Bell 47G-4 was first flown in 1962 and is powered by a 305hp(227kW)
Lycoming VO-540-B1B which is derated to 260hp(193kW). It has a range of
312miles(502km) and a maximum take-off weight of 2650lb(1202kg). An
example of the Model 47G-4 is illustrated below.

A utility version of the Model 47G-4 was built as the Model 47G-4A,
first flown in 1965, and featured extra fuel capacity and a synchronized
elevator. The Model 47G-5 was introduced in 1965 and was a two seat
utility version with a maximum take-off weight of 2850lb (1293kg). The 3
seat version was the Model 47G-5A. Both these versions were used
primarily in the agricultural role. Bell ended production of the Model
47 series in 1973 when the last Model 47G-5A came off the production
line. More than 5000 Bell 47’s of all versions were built. |
