The Campbell Aircraft Company was formed in 1959 to
develop an autogyro based on the Bensen B.8M. The first 15 built were
registered as Campbell/Bensen B.8M autogyros and one as a Campbell
Curlew. From 1968 they were known as Campbell Crickets. Other engines
used in the Cricket were the Subaru EA81, the VW1600 and the Rotax 582.
A two seat version, the Campbell Cougar, was flown in 1973 but was not
put into production. British Gyroplane Ltd. of Wallingford, England
currently manufacture kits for a Cricket replica. A small number of the
original Campbell Crickets survive in airworthy condition.
