The CL-215 was designed to replace a number of types
which had been adapted as firebombers. Although its primary role is
fire-fighting it can also be used as a search and rescue aircraft. Apart
from Canada, examples have been sold to France, Greece, Spain and
Venezuela. Kits are available from the manufacturer to retrofit the
CL-215 with 2x 2380shp (1775kW) Pratt & Whitneys under the
designation CL-215T. At least 17 have been converted to date. Production
of the Cl-215 ended in 1990.
