The CL-600 Challenger was designed by Bill Lear and
was originally designated Learstar 600. Canadair bought the rights to
the design in 1976 and further developed it to feature a large fuselage
cross section which allows for 6’1"(1.85m) headroom. Production of the
CL-600 ceased in 1983 so that the company could concentrate on the
upgraded CL-601 model. 76 of the original CL-600’s have been
retro-fitted with winglets and have the designation CL-600S.
