Cessna 172D


The Model 172D introduced a cut down rear fuselage with rear windows, radically altering the look of the Model 172. This variant was also built in France as the Reims Cessna F.172D (18 built). The Model 172E (1209 built) introduced electric flaps and was built in France as the Reims Cessna F.172E (67 built). The Model R172E (335 built) was a military variant powered by a 210hp(156kW) Continental with a strengthened undercarriage, and used by the US Air Force and US Army as trainers under the designation T-41B Mescalero. It had a maximum take-off weight of 2550lb(1157kg). The Model 172F (1400 built) had minor changes and the French version was the Reims Cessna F.172F (94 built). A number of the Model 172F’s were used as two seat trainers by the US Air Force, designated T-41A Mescalero, as were some of the Model 172G’s (1474 built) which had minor changes. The French built model was the Reims Cessna F.172G (140 built). The Model R172F (74 built) were similar to the R172E’s with the addition of wing hard points and were delivered to smaller air forces under the Mutual Aid Programme as the T-41D Mescalero. The Model 172H (1586 built) introduced a new engine cowling and modified nose undercarriage and was built in France as the F.172H (435 built). The Model 172I (649 built) was powered by a 150hp(112kW) Lycoming. The Model 172K (2055 built) featured enlarged rear side windows and was built in France as the F.172K (50 built). The Model 172L (1535 built) had a longer fin fairing and smaller propeller. The French version was the F.172L (100 built). The Model 172M (6825 built) introduced wing leading edge camber and was built in France as the Reims Cessna F.172M (610 built).
