de Havilland D.H.104 Dove 8


Designed as a successor to the D.H.89A Dragon Rapide, the Dove was produced in a number of variants. The Dove 1 of which 207 were built, was first flown in 1945 and was powered by 2x 330hp(246kW) de Havillands. The Dove 1B and 2B were Mk.1 and Mk.2 aircraft re-engined with 2x 340hp(254kW) de Havillands. The Dove 4 was the civil designation for the military Devon version of which 95 were built. The Doves 5 and 6 were uprated versions of the Doves 1 and 2. The Dove 6A was an executive version for the North American market. The Doves 7 and 8 had a raised cockpit roof and more powerful engines. Three Dove 8A’s were built for the United States where it was known as the Custom Dove 600. A total of 544 Doves were built from 1945 to 1968 and a very small number remain in airworthy condition.

Other examples of the D.H.104 Dove are illustrated below. The Dove illustrated below is a Mk.1B which was sold new in South Africa in 1951 and returned to the UK in 1955 to be eventually broken up in 1976.
