The prototype Venom first flew in 1949. This first
generation jet fighter bomber saw service with the air arms of many
countries, including the UK, Australia, France, Sweden and Switzerland.
It was built in a number of variants including the Sea Venom, a
strengthened version for use on aircraft carriers. The FB.50 was built
in Switzerland and differed from the standard Venoms in the nose which
the Swiss redesigned to house UHF equipment. About 20 are believed to be
currently active in civil markings.
