Another successful de Havilland design, the Puss Moth
was a comfortable high-wing monoplane which was aimed at the more
affluent end of the light civil market. Well known owners included the
Prince of Wales and King Feisal of Iraq. Like the earlier Moth series
the Puss Moth was used for a number of endurance records including a
flight by Amy Johnson from England to Japan in 1931 which took just
under 9 days. Another notable flight was made by Jim Mollison in 1933
when he became the first person to fly solo across the South Atlantic,
flying from England to Brazil. His aircraft had an extra fuel tank
installed in the front of the cabin giving a range of almost 4000
miles(6437km). Probably no more than half a dozen Puss Moths remain in
flying condition.
