The Beaver was designed to a requirement for a
dependable and rugged light transport with STOL capability. The vastness
of the Canadian bush and the severity of its weather required an
exceptional aircraft to provide links to remote communities. The Beaver
was up to the task and the US military ordered 968 in 1951, some of
which saw service in Korea and Vietnam. It has proven to be a very
durable design with many hundreds still flying in extreme conditions in
the remoter areas of the world. It can be flown on wheels, skis or
floats.
