de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter 300


The Twin Otter was the most successful of all the de Havilland Canada designs with a total of 844 being built. The original Series 100, first flown in 1965, was powered by 2X 578shp(431kW) P&W’s and 115 were built. The Series 200, first flown in 1968, introduced a longer nose and 115 of these were built before the Series 300 was introduced with higher powered engines in 1969. A very durable workhorse, the Twin Otter can be flown on floats or skis and can be seen in many parts of the world with smaller airlines. Many hundreds are still operational. A series 100 is illustrated below.

A small number of Twin Otters were converted with large cabin windows for Scenic Airlines who operate flights for tourists over the Grand Canyon. An example of one of these modified aircraft is illustrated below.
