Diamond DA40-180 Diamond Star


The Diamond Star tourer and trainer is a 4 seat development of the DA-20-C1 and entered production in 2000. The DA-40D Diamond Star TDI (260+ built) was first flown in 2002 and is a version powered by a 135hp(100kW) Thiebert Centurion 1.7 turbo diesel engine which can operate on automotive, diesel or Jet A1 fuel. The specifications for the DA-40D model are the same as the standard Diamond Star except that the empty weight is 1653lb(750kg). Two versions of the standard DA-40 are currently available; the DA-40XL which has a constant speed propeller and the DA-40FP which has a fixed pitch propeller and is powered by a 180hp Lycoming O-360-A4D. The prototype DA-40 is illustrated below.
