Hiller Helicopters Inc. was founded by Stanley Hiller
Jr. as United Helicopters in 1945. The Model 1100 was entered for the US
Army competition for a four seat light helicopter. Although the Hiller
design was beaten by the Hughes OH-6A, the company decided to develop
the design for the civil market. In 1964 Fairchild acquired the Hiller
company and the name was changed to Fairchild Hiller, and the type was
re-designated FH-1100. Several examples served with the military forces
of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Panama and El Salvador. A small
number remain active. .
