The PT-19 primary trainer was ordered by the US Army
Air Corps in 1940 to expand its training capability beyond the Boeing-Stearman
PT-13 biplanes which were in use at that time. The initial
PT-19/M-62(506 built) was powered by a 175hp(130kW) Ranger and had a
maximum take-off weight of 2450lb(1112kg). The PT-19B/M-62A3(917built)
had full blind flying instrumentation. A large number of PT-19’s remain
active.
