The PT-23 was powered by a Continental radial engine
due to shortages of the Ranger in-line engines. The PT-23A(256 built)
had blind flying instrumentation. The PT-26(670 built) was for the RCAF
and was given the name Cornell Mk.I. The PT-26A(807 built) was powered
by the 200hp(149kW) Ranger and was identified as the Cornell Mk.II. The
final variant was the PT-26B (250 built) which was built by Fleet and
known as the Cornell Mk.III in Royal Canadian Air Force service. The
Canadian aircraft featured enclosed cockpits. A large number of
PT-23/PT-26’s remain extant with a healthy proportion of those in
airworthy condition. A Cornell Mk.II (M-62B) is shown below.
