The Firefly dates back to 1941 when the prototype of
a development of the Fairey Fulmar first flew. It entered service in
1943 as the Mk.1(429 built) and was followed by the FR.1(236 built)
fighter-reconnaissance version. A number of variants were produced post
war including the Mk.5(352 built) and TT Mk.6 which were conversions
from the Mk.5. Fireflies saw service in Korea as well as Malaya and when
production ended in 1955 a total of 1623 of all variants had been built.
Three are believed to remain airworthy in civil markings.
