The prototype G-46B was first flown in 1947 and was
put into production for the Italian Air Force in a number of versions
including the G-46-1B powered by a 195hp(145kW) Alfa Romeo; the G-46-2B
powered by a 250hp(186kW) de Havilland for the Argentine Air Force and
the Syrian Air Force, and the G-46-4A single seat version. Austria also
operated five examples. A total of 223 of all variants were
eventually built when production ended in 1952. They remained in Italian
Air Force service until the late 1950’s when many were sold to Italian
