Fletcher FU-24

The FU-24 was designed by John Thorp specifically for the New Zealand agricultural market. The type was also produced as the six seat FU-24A utility aircraft. Production in the United States ended in 1962 and in 1964 Air Parts (NZ) Ltd. acquired the rights. Air Parts merged with Aero Engine Services Ltd. in 1973 to form New Zealand Aerospace Industries Ltd. This company began producing higher powered versions of the FU-24. In 1982 the company was re-organized as Pacific Aerospace. About five of these early FU-24’s remain airworthy. In 1953 Fletcher also built the prototype of the Fletcher FD-25B single seat light ground attack aircraft which was subsequently built under licence in Japan by the Toyo Company. It was powered by a 225hp(168kW) Continental E225-B and had a maximum take-off weight of 2500lb(1134kg). At least seven were completed for the Cambodian Air Force. Until recently one was believed to remain in airworthy condition.
