The Fokker Dr 1 was a moderately successful
World War 1 fighter which became famous because it was the favoured
mount of Manfred von Richthofen. It entered service on the Western Front
in the seconf half of 1917 and flew operationally until the summer of
1918. It was inspired by the Sopwith Triplane which had seen much
success early in 1917. Several replicas have been built including the
example illustrated below which was built in 2003.
