Funk Brother’s Akron Aircraft Inc. of Ohio
began production of the Funk Model B(101 built) in 1937. It was powered
by a 65hp(48kW) Funk engine which was a modified Ford. These were
followed in 1939 by the Funk B75L(74 built) powered by a 75hp(55kW)
Lycoming. The company ceased trading in 1941 and re-emerged in 1942 as
the Funk Aircraft Co. of Kansas. The last variant was the B85C
(95hp70kW) Continental C-90 and the company finally ceased production in
1948. A number of Funks have been modified including the Cotter-Funk
Model B which is powered by a 125hp(93kW) Lycoming and has a maximum
take-off weight of 1600lb(725kg). At least 100 Funks remain in airworthy
condition mainly in the United States, including about 70 Model B85C’s.
