The Drifter was designed by Roy Pinner and was first flown as the single seat Drifter DR 277 powered by a 27hp (20kW) Rotax 277 and with a maximum take-off weight of 500lb (227kg). It was derived from the single seat Maxair Hummer. The Drifter DR 503 was a single or two seater powered by a 46hp(34kW) Rotax 503. The single seat Drifter DR 532 was powered by a 64hp(48kW) Rotax 532 and with a maximum take-off weight of 560lb(254kg). These variants were available in kit form from the Maxair Aircraft Corporation until 1989 when Leza-Lockwood took over the rights to the type. The Drifter can also be powered by an 80hp (59kW) Rotax 912.
