Originally designated the McDonnell 119, the Model
220 was designed to compete for the USAF jet transport and navigation
trainer contract which was eventually awarded to the Lockheed Jetstar at
the end of 1959. The 26 seat interior was changed to 12 seats and
McDonnell offered the type as an executive jet. The only example built
has languished for decades under various owners but is still maintained
in airworthy condition.
