The all composite side-by-side two seat Hansa 3 was
developed by NAL (National Aerospace Laboratory) at Bangalore as an ab
initio trainer which would be suitable as a replacement for the aging
flying club fleets in India. It was developed from the earlier test
aircraft, the Hansa 2, which was first flown in 1993.
