Founded in the south of Paris in 1910 by Edouard de
Nieuport, the Societe Anonyme des Etablissements Nieuport was to become
one of Frances’ most important early aircraft manufacturers. Among their
early designs was the Nieuport 24bis which was developed from the
earlier Nieuport 17. It served with the RFC and the Aviation Militaire
as well as with the American Expeditionary Force. It served with the
Russian forces and was still being manufactured in that country until
1920. A few survive and remain airworthy along with a number of
replicas.
