The Nieuport 28 was not a success during its brief
period of service in 1918. The French were unhappy with its armament and
performance and did not order any, the examples which were built being
delivered to the US Expeditionary Force. After World War 1, Switzerland
acquired 15 for training duties and a handful went to Greece. Ten
original Nieuport 28C’s remain extant of which five are in the United
Staes. Three remain in airworthy condition. A substantial number of full
size replica Nieuport 28’s have been built in a number of countries
including Canada, France and the United States. The most popular
powerplant has been the 220hp(163kW) Continental. A replica Nieuport 28
is illustrated below.
