The F-86E (336 built) was the next production model
after the F-86A and differed from the latter in having an all-moving
tailplane. Canadair built the F-86E under licence for the RCAF under the
designation CL-13 Sabre 2 (350 built) and Sabre 4 (438 built) with very
little difference between the two. The F-86F differed fundamentally from
the F-86E with the more powerful General Electric engine, new
non-slatted wing leading edge giving an increase in wing area and
additional wing hardpoints. Performance and manoeuvrability were
increased substantially and the type was ordered by a number of foreign
air forces including Spain (244), Korea (112), Norway (90), Pakistan
(120), Argentina (28), Iraq (5), Portugal (50), Turkey (12), Venezuela
(22), Peru (14) and the Philippines (40). In addition 300 were assembled
from parts in Japan by Mitsubishi. A number of other versions were
subsequently built but only examples of the F-86E and F-86F remain
airworthy. An F-86E is illustrated below.
