The Navion was designed as a high performance tourer
and the type was also operated by the US Army as the L-17A in the
observation role. North American decided to stop production of the
Navion and concentrate on military work and the rights were sold to the
Ryan Aeronautical Corporation in 1947. Ryan continued to build the type
with a higher powered engine. A large number of North American built
Navions remain airworthy.
