The Buckeye was developed for the US Navy as a basic
jet trainer which could take the student from ab initio training through
to carrier landings. The prototype made its first flight in 1958 and the
initial production T-2A (217 built) powered by a single
3400lb.s.t.(15.4kN) Westinghouse entered service in 1959. The twin
engined T-2B was followed by the T-2C (273 built) which was powered by
2x 2950lb.s.t.(13.1kN) General Electrics. The air forces of Venezuela
and Greece operated 12 T-2D’s and 30 T-2E’s respectively. A small number
of T-2B and C’s are now operated in civil markings in the United States.
