Piel CP-301A Emeraude

The CP-301A Emeraude was developed from the CP-30 (1 built) which was designed by Claude Piel. The CP-30 made its first flight in 1954 powered by a 65hp (48kW) Continental and with a maximum take-off weight of 1078lb (489kg). The Emeraude was built in a number of variants and by a number of small manufacturers. The CP-301B (23 built) was built by Rousseau and featured a number of minor improvements including a sliding canopy. The CP-301C (84 built) was built by Scintex and featured a bubble canopy and pointed wingtips. An assortment of amateur built Emeraudes have included the CP-302 powered by a 90hp (67kW) Salmson, the CP-303 powered by a 85hp (63kW) Salmson, the CP-304 powered by a 85hp (63kW) Continental, the CP-305 powered by a 115hp (85kW) Lycoming and the CP-308 powered by a 75hp (55kW) Continental. The Garland Linnet (5 built) was an English version powered by a 90hp Continental and the Binder CP-301S Smaragd (25 built) was a German version. The type was also built in South Africa as the Genair Ariel 11 (11 built).
