The PC-7 Turbo-Trainer was a turboprop version of the
Pilatus P-3 and although the prototype first flew in 1966 it was not
until 1978 that sufficient interest in the type led to the delivery of
the first production example. A few of the early deliveries were to
civil customers including Swissair who ordered two, but the majority
went to military customers including the air forces of Abu Dhabi (24),
Angola (18), Austria (16), Bolivia (36), Burma (17), Chile (10),
Guatemala (12), Iraq (52), Malaysia (44), Mexico (75) and Switzerland
(40). A small number are still to be found active in civil markings.
