Saab J35A Draken

The Draken was a supersonic all-weather fighter capable of operating from small airfields. The prototype was first flown in 1955 and the first production version was the J35A which entered service with the Swedish Air Force in 1960. This was followed by the J35B (73 built) which featured improved radar and weapons carrying ability. The J35D (120 built) entered service in 1962 and was powered by a 17,650lb.s.t.(78.51kN) Volvo. The J35F (230 built) was the final production version and had more advanced avionics and was equipped with the Falcon missile. Denmark, Austria and Finland also operated examples of the Draken, of which a total of 606 of all variants were built, 525 of those for the Swedish Air Force. A small number are now flown in civil markings in the United States by the National Test Pilot School.
