Scheibe Flugzeugbau GmbH was founded by Egon Scheibe
in 1951 to build gliders. The first powered design was the SF-23, the
prototype of which was first flown powered by a 65hp(48kW) Continental.
The first production model was the SF-23A which was followed by the
SF-23B (4 built) which was powered by a 100hp(75kW) Continental and the
SF-23C (6 built) which was powered by a 115hp(85kW) Lycoming and with a
maximum take-off weight of 1609lb(730kg). Production of the Sperling
ended in 1961 and a few remain airworthy.
