The Commuter 11B was a development of the earlier
Commuter 11A with a roomier cabin. Both types are two seat versions of
the original single seat Helicom H-1 Commuter Jr. which was sold as a
kit by Helicom Inc. of Long Beach, California. The Commuter Jr. made its
first flight in 1960 powered by a 90hp(67kW) Continental C-90. Tamarind
International Ltd. of Olla, Louisiana bought the rights to the Commuter
series when it purchased International Helicopters in 1984. A small
number of Commuter 11A’s and 11B’s remain airworthy.
